how this mommy hems pants
So we are forever needing pants hemmed in this house. the boys keep growing and ripping their pants for school (we wear uniforms at school so we need khaki pants 4 days a week). And since we don't own a sewing machine and one of our grandma's is in Rome we are doing the best we can (or should I say I can).
So instead of saving up pants for a visit from Grandma Walker we are making do with what we have and my abilities to not really sew....
So K ripped his last pair of "dress" pants for school and needed a new pair for tomorrow and they needed to be hemmed up like 8 inches....yes he has the "walker boy" body shape...so I did it.
Can you tell?
The stapler is my friend. I am coloring the staples with permanent marker so they aren't so noticeable and K doesn't seemed bothered by it at all....especially since he has been the unfortunate boy who had to wear the last pair of pants I "tried" to actually sew and it wasn't pretty!

Happy Green Day
So this past Friday K came home from school with a lot of info about St Patty's Day and leprechauns. We have never celebrated this holiday...not Irish...so this was new to us. He was sure he could catch a leprechaun and planned out his trap and got E to plan one out too.
Monday was a day of building the traps and getting them all set up.
This One is K's
This one is E's
When they got up Tuesday morning this is what they found........
in the bathroom...and the toilet water was green too!
The cookies were turned green
nothing in the traps but lots of leprechaun dust and gold moneyDVDs stacked at the door and bottom pantry shelf emptied
the boys' closet cleaned out and shoes all over the doorway and hall.
There is leprechaun dust everywhere with gold coins and we have decided they should return to clean up their mess too!

Fun Weekend
We got a weekend visit from Kris and Elisa this weekend. Luckily we live in a place that has events happening so people come to stay with us and do whatever their plans call for...this weekend was the NCAA games for Kris and Elisa....Utah was playing and won if you are wondering.
We had fun building hoopsters (hooped airplanes) and bowling and wii and wii fit and eating out.
What a great weekend. The boys are hoping they come back again soon! We love having you here!

{time measured by kitchen appliances}
So about a month ago our blender died....a quiet death...we went to use it and discovered it was leaking from somewhere that was not able to be fixed so we threw it away.
Two weeks ago I went to use the salad shooter and it shocked me, made a spark, and then made a wonderful metal grating noise. Away in the trash that went
Then tonight....the rice cooker. You physically have to hold the cook button down for it to cook the rice. First I stood there mad for a minute holding down the button. Then Kaden came in the house so I made him hold the button while I looked for tape. The tape worked okay but you have to check on it every 5 minutes or so b/c it needs to be re taped down again.
Can you see the tape in the picture?
Dinner was fine and I can't replace the rice cooker now so we will live with taping it down. I figured we would get a new blender closer to hot weather when we make a lot of smoothies. I don't even think they make salad shooter anymore....it makes me sad.
But we realized all those appliances were given to us when we got married....13 years ago. So it mighty be time for things to stop working....I just wish it didn't have to happen all at once!

Science Project Time
This year is the first year K has to do a "project" as opposed to a report for the science fair at school.
It has taken two weekends of our lives but it is finished (a week early...but they didn't know it was a week early until we were finished tonight) and everyone is glad it is done.
K did a project about temperature affecting the amount of soda that explodes out of a can when you shake it. He was happy to have a project that makes a mess.
E is in 1st grade so he still gets to write a report. They do note card reports to teach them how to form paragraphs etc. So his report was on the rhino and is in note card fashion on a poster board. He is very proud of his project. All we did was cute the circles and print out the pictures he picked. He did the rest himself...

Note to self...
So K and I went to the new library that opened about 2 months ago right down the street from us...we are so happy to have a library close to us so we aren't making an afternoon out of going to the library anymore...but I digress.
At our library they have an excellent selection of movies and so we always get a few movies with our sack of books. I saw ET on the self and thought the boys would love it. They haven't seen it yet but I thought it would be a good one.
So tonight they watch it...I fall asleep really early (like right after dinner around 6-ish) I wake up at 915 and they are still up. Apparently ET isn't the kids friendly movie I remember it being and E is freaking out already.
Chad, the wonderful daddy he is, reads books for a good hour and lays down with E until he falls asleep.
We assume he will be up again sometime tonight and that we will pay for this movie with nightmares for the next few days
So lesson learned....ET not for 6 year olds.
