Guess what we almost forgot?
Well tonight at 815 I realize we have forgotten on of the main traditional Halloween activities...
Yep...we forgot to carve pumpkins. We did buy pumpkins two Saturdays ago and since then the boys have asked daily when we will carve them, but stopped asking on Monday. So we forgot too.
After a quick discussion about how I didn't want to carve pumpkins but how I would feel guilty for the rest of the time the pumpkins lived on our porch we started carving at 830 tonight. Luckily since we live in Vegas, tomorrow is Nevada Day so we don't have school. After 45 minutes we have finished the pumpkins....it has to be a world record.
Chad cut them open, I got all the guts out and the boys started hammering....
Yes Hammering....you see when Kaden was little like 18 months or so he was so disappointed that he couldn't carve the pumpkin and it was just not fun for a baby. The next year we discovered these things that are like light brights (remember those?). You hammer in the lights and than put a small flashlight on the inside and it is easy, cute and they get to do it themselves.
Last year they each got two pumpkins, this year they each got one and one for Chad. So they decided Chad would carve Mickey Mouse into his and the boys would hammer theirs.
So here is the process....
Here is E's
Did you guess it is Wall-E?
K's will be a disco ball
He always gives up and does what he calls a "Carzy design"
But he is still hammering away so his picture will come tomorrow.
And Chad's in the dark and light....
And Chad's in the dark and light....
Halloween Carnival
This year our ward had a Halloween carnival instead of the usual trunk or treat. We missed the trunk or treat and have no idea where we will be trick or treating this year but the boys liked the carnival. They had all kinds of games set up and the boys had a lot of fun. Ethan's favorite was the cake walk and he even won a cake.
The boys are going with the Star Wars theme again this year. I am thinking we are stuck in this "phase" for awhile. Last year we had Darth Vader and Boba Fett (some guy from the newer star wars movies)
This year E is Jega Fett (I have been told he is a bounty hunter and maybe a brother to Boba Fett? I don't know if I have that right.)
K is a Jedi.
All the pictures are from chad's phone b/c my camera is so broken!! So they aren't the best quatlity but you can get the idea!

What we have been doing....
Well after 5 days of sick kids both boys were finally back in school on Friday. They both missed school on Tuesday, than Ethan was home Wednesday and Thursday. He returned right in time for his first field trip on Friday. Then at 130 the teacher called to tell me Ethan's face was covered in bumps and tiger stripes....a reaction to rolling down a hill of freshly cut grass we figure. So it was an eventful day back for him.
Today we had Ethan soccer game, where I am so lucky to be able to run up and down the field with the kids explaining the rules every time the whistle blows. (sense the sarcasm there?! well it is) So now after last weeks game I am the person who gets to help the team out by spreading the kids out on the field and explaining who gets to kickoff, do a corner kick, goal kick, or tell them which direction we are going on the field. I am certainly getting my work out on Saturdays.
But here is what I really have been doing for two days...and today Chad and Kaden helped me get it all moved in. Mine is the overfull one...Chad's is the empty one waiting for something to happen....
They started off white, now black and I love them so much more. We had moved mine in when it was white and it was too plain for this room since the walls are white.
Also I wanted to find something to fill this candle holder with and I found a bag of fake autumn veggies at Micheals so here it is....a bit more fall in our summer like Vegas weather.

Get in Love
So to my great joy Ethan is studying Shakespeare's plays in school this year. Imagine 1st graders trying to learn Shakespeare. I took a great class my 2nd year in college that was all Shakespeare and I loved it! So this thrills me that he is coming home with these stories to share.
(Add another reason to the list of things I love about our school)
Here is the first one he came home with....
Ethan calls this one "the ALL play"
And it goes like this (Ethan's version)
"there is this King and he kicks out this girl and the girls helper. The girl is named Roseline and her girl helper is someone I don't know. But that Orlando and this boy get in a wrestling match and then Orlando and Roseline get in love"
"get in love" I love that part....somehow love comes and you just get it. No falling in love in this boys mind...he was more focused on the wrestling part. Love was a side note.
Than this week he came home with "Romeo and Juliet the sock puppets" (that is Ethan's title)
It goes like this "there is a boy Romeo and in my story he has a cape and Julia or Julie or something like that, she has long hair. And their families are fighting but no one knows why and than Julia calls for Romeo from her window and Romeo hears her and they get in love. And then they die."
More getting in love....happens a lot in these stories!
Pack Meeting
So Thursday was Pack Meeting and I had to take a picture.
The theme was "books" and each boy had to dress as one of their favorite characters in a story. Kaden picked "Stink"
I love that he loves to read and can be found with a book in bed every night. He ha re-read hi favorite book so many time that I find it totally worth it to just buy him books. Mostly he is enjoying "boy" books...ones that have funny potty humor and have boys doing crazy things like having the smelliest shoe contest.

School Picture Day
Today is school picture day which means it is the first day the boys have had to wear thier school dress uniform to school. So I thought I'd show you how great they looked at 7 am!
I am just hoping they both get pictures taken BEFORE lunch and recess today so their white shirts will still be white!
A Weekend Trip
This past weekend we headed to Salt Lake City. Our Apo family was meeting up there at Kris' home for the weekend. My parents had never been to visit him there and also
had never been to general Conference so they got to do both of those things.
And since Blaine's Family and we are in Vegas we all drove up for the weekend.
We got to spend some great time together and everyone got to know Kris' fiance, Elisa.
We are so excited for their January wedding in the SLC temple.
Here are a few pictures of the boys and cousins at the Dinosaur Museum at Thanksgiving Point.
We also got o visit with our Walker family...Chad's mom and her husband also live in Draper now so we got to stay with them at their house and spend some time visiting before they head off on their mission for our church.
